Course Research Reports

To make a strong application, you need to spend time researching and thinking about what you want to study and why.

Our Course Research Reports help you to assess the skills and talents required for a successful application to read your course and how to best prepare.

Interviews often include questions such as Why did you choose this course? and What would you enjoy about this course?  It is important to remember that interviews are conducted by admissions tutors and professors who have dedicated their lives to the subject, and want to see that you are motivated and inspired by your chosen course.

Each Course Research Report includes:

Over ten years of real interview questions. Working through past questions can help you to think analytically and laterally. It also helps you to understand what admissions tutors are looking for in a successful applicant for your course.

Course–specific reading recommendations. Compiled by our graduate tutors, our reports include course-specific reading suggestions to encourage you to explore your subject in greater depth and independently, away the school syllabus

A successful applicant case-study and opinions from a current or former student of the course. This gives you a first-hand taster of what the course involves.

A detailed breakdown of the structure and format for each year of the course.

The importance of choosing the right course

It's so important to thoroughly research your course. I wanted to study medical biology but I did not want to read Medicine at University. I had almost resigned myself to applying for Medicine, when a teacher suggested I look at the Physiological Sciences course at Oxford. I spent time finding out more about it, and realised it was exactly what I was interested in. Finding a course I really wanted to do focused my application; it really motivated me and I know this ultimately helped me to succeed.

Alexandra, Oxbridge Applications tutor and graduate of Physiological Sciences,* Oxford.

*Please note, the Physiological course has now been replaced with Oxford's BioMedical Sciences course.

My life at Cambridge was very much focused around the college. Visiting colleges and researching them thoroughly is an important part of the application process. You don't want to end up being somewhere you dislike. Choosing a college (or deciding on an open application) is a personal decision; so don't be afraid to take time to think about it.

Nick, Oxbridge Applications tutor and graduate of Corpus Christi, Cambridge.
