Engineering Admissions

One of the conditions of universities being allowed to charge the top tuition fees og £9000 per annum, was that they could prove that they were spending a certain percentage on fair access to higher education.

Now, some politicians have gone one step further - calling for admissions tutors to take an applicant's background into context when making admissions decisions - social engineering to some.

One Telegraph blogger looks into the arguments for this intervention - and argues that the tutors have been doing it for years anyway in order to get the best candidates.
