New Oxford Record

The University of Oxford is set to have the largest intake of state school students ever.  This follows a rise in applicants from state schools this year, although it is predicted that the number of state school pupils actually going to Oxford is likely to be 1 percentage point below this figure.

This news broke at the same time as Oxford indicated that it would become the fourth university in the country, after Imperial, Exeter and Cambridge, to announce a fee rise to £9000 per annum. Nick Clegg, Deputy Prime Minister has said that in response to this fee increase, universities would have to prove they were spending at least £900 in out-reach policies for every £9000 fee paid or face heavy fines.
