…but only if you live in the Arctic. New research suggests that the number of days the Arctic is ice-free is increasing by up to 5 per decade. As part of a cycle, less ice in spring leads to more heat being absorbed from the Sun over summer, as less light is reflected back into the atmosphere. This, in turn, leads to later ice formation in the autumn. While this may seem trivial, the amount of energy in these changes in equivalent to one atomic bomb every square kilometre!
