UCAT Course Structure
As an introduction to the day, you will learn how your test is used in the admissions process, what the examiners are looking for and what skills you need to demonstrate in order to achieve the maximum marks. The UCAT may be one test, but it is split into five distinct sections, all of which require different skills. The introduction will explain the importance of the test and how our Seminar will help you develop the technical skills and strategic approaches needed to present an outstanding paper.
Included in the cost of the day are all four of our unique mock UKCAT papers, written by our test experts. Two will be marked and returned to you.
You will analyse model questions and answers for both the multiple choice and essay questions in turn to identify successful ways of approaching questions. Your Seminar leader will teach you to identify different types of multiple choice questions so that you can improve your speed and accuracy when under time pressure. You will also go over the content and skills required to succeed in the different sections of the UCAT.
This is the longest section of the Seminar: you will look at the different types of multiple choice question and practise applying your own scientific knowledge and logic to difficult questions. For the longer essay question, you will discuss approaches to the questions, create essay plans and hone the way you construct your arguments.
We will help you develop your own test strategy; a plan as to how you can structure your time in order to gain maximum marks and develop a clear understanding of which areas you should focus on in your preparation before the UCAT. You will also cover technical areas specific to your test to improve you accuracy so that you do not miss out on crucial marks.
The UCAT is designed to be a difficult test, with a strict time-limit. You’ll learn how to use the time you have effectively in the multiple choice questions, and develop quick verification methods to improve your accuracy. You will also learn how to maximise your marks in the essay question by picking the right question, planning your response and meeting the marking requirements.
Written by our expert consultants, our practice papers replicate the style, format and timing of the real examinations, giving you the chance to practise your approach to the test as well as the skills required. As the UCAT is time-pressured, it is essential to attempt at least two mock papers, so you will have the chance to sit a practice paper under exam conditions. In addition to your mock test, we are providing a unique paper for you to sit prior to the day, which you will bring with you to the seminar.
After the UCAT Seminar, both your mock test and the test you brought with you will be marked and returned to you with feedback within 10 working days – a great chance for you to see how you’ve improved!
